Reach

REACH is a complex regulation with a number of transitional periods: all chemicals that come under the REACH regulation must be registered within a period of 11 years. Critical substances and substances which are manufactured and imported in large quantities must be registered first of all.

REACH in brief

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals. The REACH regulation will replace about 60 existing directives and regulations, including the Existing Substances Regulations, the Hazardous Substances Directive, the Prohibition Directive and all related directives and regulations.

The REACH regulation distinguishes three groups:

  • Importers and manufacturers
  • Distributors
  • End users

Although different obligations apply to these three different groups, one company may have several roles under the REACH regulation. For example, a manufacturer may also be an end user.

When does REACH apply?

If your company manufactures e.g. foodstuffs, this does not necessarily mean that REACH does not apply to you at all. For example, you might use ancillary materials in your production process.
D&F will use the REACH Quick-Scan to find out for you which chemicals come under the REACH regulation and which do not. We use the existing databases to do this.

D&F will draw up a plan for you to enable you to comply with the REACH regulations for each category in good time. If you’d like to find out more about REACH, please contact us and ask us to send you our product folder free of charge (after registration).
