Work Equipment Directive

A lot of new regulations relating to machinery and work equipment have been included in the EU directives. Some of these regulations are based on European production directives and can be identified by the CE marking. Other regulations are based on European social directives for employers.

Risks attached to work equipment

It has emerged in practice that the risks attached to work equipment have not been assessed sufficiently, if at all. Since an in-depth Risk Inventory and Evaluation often shows that the biggest dangers are present in a company’s machinery, a risk assessment must be carried out in this respect. Carrying out a risk assessment is a time-consuming process and requires considerable knowledge of the relevant directives and standards. Requirements have been set for e.g. maintenance and periodic inspections, as well as training and instructions for employees relating to the operating phase of all work equipment.

Employers are responsible for work equipment

Under the Working Conditions Act, employers are responsible for the work equipment to be used by their employees, even if the machinery has CE marking. This means that proper supervision and guidance are essential at this stage. D&F Consulting B.V. plays a major role as a specialist in this respect. If your affairs are in good order, you will satisfy the Health and Safety Inspectorate, and there will be very little risk of any problems occurring.

The Work Equipment Directive (2009/104/EC) has been implemented in Section 7 of the Working Conditions Decree. The aim of our action plan is to ensure safe work equipment and to comply with national legislation. This action plan varies according to each company’s needs.
