The aim of the ATEX 95 Directive (94/09/EC) is to guarantee the free movement of the products to which it applies within the EEA.
The ATEX 95 Directive applies to the legal entity which puts the relevant products on the market and/or into operation, regardless of whether this is the manufacturer or its authorised representative, the importer, or any other responsible party. This could even be an employer at the time when machines or equipment are constructed, changed or expanded on the company premises.
The ATEX 95 Directive applies to machinery and protective systems intended for use at locations where there might be a risk of explosion.
The ATEX 95 Directive is an EU directive (94/09/EC), which has been incorporated into the Explosion-proof Materials (Commodities Act) Decree in the Netherlands. The directive is intended for manufacturers of materials that are suitable for use in areas where explosive atmospheres may occur.
The ATEX 95 Directive also applies to equipment which is liable to explosion or which can cause a risk of explosion.
Under the ATEX 95 Directive, manufacturers are obliged to ensure that machinery and protective systems to be used in areas where there is a risk of explosion are explosion-proof when designing and assembling them.
